About this treatment
Dental emergencies rarely come at a convenient time. Severe toothache, a swollen face, a cracked tooth or a crown that falls off can make it hard to eat, sleep or work. We keep appointments free every day so that patients in pain are seen quickly.
Our first priority is always to relieve your pain and stop any infection from spreading. Once you are comfortable, we explain what caused the problem and the options to fix it for good, with clear costs and no pressure.

Follow-up plan
We plan any further care (such as a root canal or crown) at a time that suits you.
Aftercare and everyday tips
- Take pain relief only as advised and avoid aspirin after an extraction unless told otherwise
- Chew on the other side and avoid very hot, cold or hard foods for a few days
- Keep the area clean with gentle brushing and warm salt-water rinses
- Call us immediately if swelling spreads, you get a fever or the pain returns
- Keep your follow-up appointment so the problem doesn't come back
Frequently asked questions
Pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse it briefly if dirty and, if you can, put it back in its socket. Otherwise keep it in milk or in your cheek and come in immediately. A tooth replanted within an hour has the best chance of being saved.
Rinse with warm salt water, gently floss to remove trapped food and take an over-the-counter painkiller following the leaflet. Never put aspirin directly on the gum, and call us as soon as possible.
Yes. Swelling often means an infection that needs to be treated quickly. If the swelling affects your eye, makes it hard to swallow or breathe, or comes with a high fever, go to a hospital emergency department straight away.
Keep the crown safe and call us. Avoid chewing on that side. In many cases a clean crown can simply be re-cemented the same day.
Yes, we see children and adults. For children, a knock to a baby tooth should also be checked, as it can affect the adult tooth underneath.
